The foot and ankle are focal points to which the body's entire weight is transmitted through with each and every step we take. Because of this concentrated stress, the foot and ankle are often involved in injuries and deformities not ordinarily affecting other parts of the body. Moreover, the foot is subject to a higher incidence of systemic conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, and diabetic complications.

Since the foot brings us into immediate contact with the environment around us and due to its constant exposure and susceptibility to injury, it is important that as part of any foot care program footwear is considered. Our choices in footwear can in itself cause and in some instances compound many foot and ankle problems.

What can GB Orthopaedics do to help?

Since every patient will present with differing concerns, it is important to treat them as the individual they are. This means a comprehensive medical, surgical and social background is taken and a thorough physical examination is performed. This will include all aspects of the lower limb (foot, ankle, knees, hips, lower back, and posture), vascular assessment (veins and arteries), neurological assessment (nerves), dermatological assessment (skin and nails) and inspection of footwear to determine its appropriateness. These five aspects will determine the course of treatment or intervention (if any).
